Edit: I just got home from work and have had a few minutes to check out the new features added in the Minecraft beta 1.3 patch. I must say that i like the new half-blocks alot except maybe the Cobblestone slab, i have never really liked the cobble texture, hence why i hardly ever use cobblestone to build.
I rather use cleanstone even if it take alot of time smelting em.

Here’s a picture of the three new half-blocks. I did however find a “bug”, and that is when you try to destroy a wooden half-block you need to use the pickaxe. The good thing is that it now drops two half-blocks when you destroy a double half-block. Which it did not do before.

I’m not sure about the bed yet, it will add a awesome furniture style to your home, but I’m not sure on how the “skip night”-feature will play out on populated servers. I can see the spam going “GET TO BED”, “WE NEED DAY” etc. That eventually leads to trashtalk and swearing. Hopefully it won’t tho!

I do love the new lighting feature implemented, the game now looks really really nice. It adds some depth and a almost cozy feeling when digging out those pesky mines. I did not try out the Redstone Repeater, mostly because i suck at redstoning, but here’s how it looks and the recipe for it.

That’s all I had time to see tonight, but will check again tomorrow if I have time before work.
Also, maybe try the repeater, if I know how to!
I hope Coneboy’s SMP Server gets online with the new beta build soon, it currently runs with the 1.2 version due to some security plugins not updated yet. Below are the official patch notes posted by Notch on his blog, hope you enjoy.

• Implemented a new lighting engine with the help of MrMessiahs (can be turned off)
• Changed the options around, added a new “Graphics options” button
• Added beds. If all players in a map sleeps in a bed during night, the game immediately skips until morning
• Added three new half-size blocks
• Added Delay/Repeater redstone dust blocks
• Added whitelisting to the server. To use, enter “whitelist <cmd>” where cmd is “on”, “off”, “add <player>”, “remove <player>”, “list” or “reload”
• New save file format, old maps need to be converted (that might take a while..)
• It’s now possible to have more than five save slots, and to rename saves
• Scrollbars in both the texture pack list, and in the map selection screen
• Replaced the Mojang splash image to reflect the new logo colors
• .. and a bunch of bug fixes and tweaks!
