Minecraft release date announced

So, Notch en the rest from Mojang had a board meeting today and came up with a date for a official release for Minecraft. Notch said that they will continue to add stuff up to the release date, aswell as after. It’s just a milestone to get rid of the BETA stamp.

A new Minecraft beta update have been released today and it contains the tamable wolves for example. That will hopefully add a nice new feature to the game and probably a little more diversity in single player. I have yet to try out the new changes due to being at work at the moment. But screenshots will be added later.

Due to the recent Minecraft patch and addons not working properly we encountered a pretty hefty map corruption on Coneboys SMP Server and decided to reset the map. Donors got their buildings moved and and we also moved the old spawn location from the old map.
Map reset are nice, then you can build from scratch again. So if you want to be a part of, and help build our community, be sure to sign up on www.coneboy.de and join the server.

Naturally occurring Sandstone?

I started a new map a few minutes ago and when i started digging i found naturally occurring sandstone. Was this added in 1.3 or 1.2? Never seen it before so i got pretty excited about it.

Edit: I just got home from work and have had a few minutes to check out the new features added in the Minecraft beta 1.3 patch. I must say that i like the new half-blocks alot except maybe the Cobblestone slab, i have never really liked the cobble texture, hence why i hardly ever use cobblestone to build.
I rather use cleanstone even if it take alot of time smelting em.

Here’s a picture of the three new half-blocks. I did however find a “bug”, and that is when you try to destroy a wooden half-block you need to use the pickaxe. The good thing is that it now drops two half-blocks when you destroy a double half-block. Which it did not do before.
I’m not sure about the bed yet, it will add a awesome furniture style to your home, but I’m not sure on how the “skip night”-feature will play out on populated servers. I can see the spam going “GET TO BED”, “WE NEED DAY” etc. That eventually leads to trashtalk and swearing. Hopefully it won’t tho!

I do love the new lighting feature implemented, the game now looks really really nice. It adds some depth and a almost cozy feeling when digging out those pesky mines. I did not try out the Redstone Repeater, mostly because i suck at redstoning, but here’s how it looks and the recipe for it.

That’s all I had time to see tonight, but will check again tomorrow if I have time before work.
Also, maybe try the repeater, if I know how to!
I hope Coneboy’s SMP Server gets online with the new beta build soon, it currently runs with the 1.2 version due to some security plugins not updated yet. Below are the official patch notes posted by Notch on his blog, hope you enjoy.

- Implemented a new lighting engine with the help of MrMessiahs (can be turned off)
- Changed the options around, added a new “Graphics options” button
- Added beds. If all players in a map sleeps in a bed during night, the game immediately skips until morning
- Added three new half-size blocks
- Added Delay/Repeater redstone dust blocks
- Added whitelisting to the server. To use, enter “whitelist <cmd>” where cmd is “on”, “off”, “add <player>”, “remove <player>”, “list” or “reload”
- New save file format, old maps need to be converted (that might take a while..)
- It’s now possible to have more than five save slots, and to rename saves
- Scrollbars in both the texture pack list, and in the map selection screen
- Replaced the Mojang splash image to reflect the new logo colors
- .. and a bunch of bug fixes and tweaks!

Notch officially announced that Minecraft will be released for iPhone, iPad and Android later this year.
Check out the whole story over at Gamasutra!
That is great news for just about everyone, imagine playing Minecraft wherever you want without a computer.
Edit: Android support is not mentioned on Gamasutras site, altho it is confirmed by Daniel Kaplan a.k.a Kappische:

A creeper on the Swedish subway cards?

Yes, if we are lucky that is! Mojang signed up for a contest, and the grand prize it to get their picture on the back of the Swedish subwaycards provided by SL ( Storstockholms Lokaltrafik ). Be sure to vote for it so we can have some Minecraft creeper action while riding the subway…. That sounded wrong!

The next Minecraft contest
22So, I’m in the works of throwing another Minecraft gift code contest. But I don’t know what the contest should look like. Please leave serious suggestions in the comments. Who knows, this might serve as a contest on it’s own. No promises, but if I get a really nice suggestion I might give away a code to the person who submits it. No promises :)
Anyway, IF i get a good suggestion and decide on using it I will throw a Minecraft gift code contest this weekend… probably. Work is taking up alot of my time as of now…
